The feature now has the highest number of BAFTAs for a foreign language film, a record previously held by Italian coming-of-age drama Cinema Paradiso, which claimed five in 1988.

All Quiet on the Western Front stars Felix Kammerer as young German soldier Paul Bäumer, who lies about his age to join the war effort alongside his school friends, only to be confronted with the real horrors of World War One.

The film is the third adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque's classic World War I novel, but is the first to be directed by, produced by and starring Germans.
